Drone flight zones in Romania

Flight zones for drones are airspace sectors where the UAS regime decides if you may fly freely, with conditions, or not at all. On the map they appear as coloured geometries — check the exact point, not just the city name.

Key information

  • UAS zone = a map rule for a perimeter and altitude ceiling.
  • No colour on the map does not guarantee free flight — also check NOTAM.
  • CTR / airports often need Annex 1 or coordination.
  • Military zones (often purple) → MoND clearance.
  • Verdict is on coordinates + date/time, not county.

What this means for you

Before take-off, mark the point on the UAS map and read the zone type. If approval is required, stop until you have written confirmation.

How to check a flight zone

  1. Open the UAS map and mark the take-off point.
  2. Identify zone type (prohibited, conditional, CTR, military).
  3. Read altitude limit and contacts in details.
  4. Overlay NOTAM for the planned day and hour.
  5. If needed, prepare Annex 1 / MoND / AACR before flight.

Frequently asked questions

On the ROMATSA UAS map and the interactive Drone Log map — same data types, on a point.

Usually where flying is allowed/forbidden. The answer is UAS map + NOTAM, not a fixed place list.

Blue usually means controlled airspace / CTR — check the local procedure (Annex 1) before take-off.

UAS geometry updates periodically; NOTAMs change daily. Re-check on flight day.

Yes. Airspace restrictions do not disappear with lower weight.

If indicatively clear — confirm NOTAM. If approval required — generate the request. If prohibited — move.
