UAS geographical zones in Romania

UAS geographical zones are how Romania (under EASA) defines where and how you may fly a drone. They appear on the ROMATSA map as perimeters with regime types — prohibition, authorisation, conditions.

Key information

  • EU 2019/947 framework — national map implementation.
  • ROMATSA publishes geometries for Romania.
  • Common types — PROHIBITED, authorisation, conditional, CTR.
  • Always completed by NOTAM (dynamic layer).
  • Check the point and route, not just the “city”.

What this means for you

When planning a flight, the UAS geographical zone is the first legal filter on the map. Without it, an A1/A3 certificate does not tell you if the place is allowed.

How to work with geographical zones

  1. Open the UAS map (ROMATSA or Drone Log).
  2. Mark take-off and any route.
  3. Read zone type and vertical ceiling.
  4. Add NOTAM for your window.
  5. Document the check in the logbook.

Essentially yes — the European name for zones states publish for UAS operations.

On flightplan.romatsa.ro (UAS map). Drone Log shows them for point checks.

The concept is shared; geometries and procedures are national. In Romania the ROMATSA map matters.

Manufacturer geo-fencing helps, but the official map + NOTAM remain the source of truth.
