Key information

  • Purple — military zone, MoND clearance usually required.
  • Blue — restricted, usually needs approval (CTR, R).
  • Yellow — active NOTAM or temporary restriction.
  • No coloured layer — not automatically clear; check NOTAM and zoom in.
  • On click: vertical limits and ATC contacts.

What this means for you

Any colour on your area = open details. Match exact point, altitude and time before calling the flight permitted. Re-check on flight day.

After reading the steps, check if you can fly on the exact point or explore the flight zones map. If the zone needs coordination, see the approval request.

Try it on the live map

Fastest way: open the map, search your location and click your flight point. You will see purple, blue and yellow layers on your planned area.

On the public map: toggle layers in the toolbar, zoom in and read the verdict. On the zone check: set point, altitude and time window, then review the result.

What the colours mean on the map

  • Purple — restricted UAS zone or clearance required (including military).
  • Blue — aerodrome, CTR or U-space with extra coordination.
  • Yellow — active NOTAM imported for the planned time window.
  • No coloured layer — not a guarantee of clear airspace; zoom in and check NOTAM/PIB.

How to read the map, step by step

  1. Open the map for your planned area Go to the Romania UAS map or the zone check, search your location and click your point. Without an account you can explore layers; with an account you get the full map and flight log.
  2. Check active layers Make sure permanent restrictions (purple/blue) and NOTAMs (yellow) are visible. If a layer is off, you may miss an important limit.
  3. Click the zone or your flight point The panel shows zone type, vertical limits (ceiling in metres or FL), ATC contact and whether prior clearance is required.
  4. Match your concrete flight plan Check exact coordinates, maximum altitude and date/time window against the restrictions. A zone a few metres from your path may still restrict the flight.
  5. Check NOTAM and PIB The yellow layer shows NOTAMs imported into the app; for final confirmation also check the ROMATSA NOTAM index on flight day.
  6. If approval is required — follow the procedure For purple/blue zones requiring clearance: contact the authority shown or generate the request in Drone Log (HG 859 package for flights in Romania).
  7. Re-check immediately before take-off NOTAMs and temporary restrictions change. Repeat the check on the morning of the flight, even if you already have approval.

Official ROMATSA map vs Drone Log

ROMATSA (flightplan.romatsa.ro) remains the reference source. Drone Log reuses ROMATSA data and puts it in the context of your flight check — point, altitude, time window and NOTAM.
