Key information

  • C0 — under 250 g: you register as a UAS operator and mark the operator code on the drone, but you do not need the A1/A3 competency certificate.
  • C1–C4 — operator registration plus the A1/A3 competency certificate. C2 additionally requires the A2 certificate.
  • The class drives the subcategory: C0 and C1 to A1, C2 to A2, C3 and C4 to A3.
  • Mass and class do not cancel airspace restrictions.
  • Check the label and the drone documentation if you are unsure.

What this means for you

Do not confuse the two obligations: operator registration applies to drones under 250 g as well, the competency certificate does not. A small drone does not mean no paperwork at all.

To move from theory to practice, check if you can fly or use the airspace checker. If the zone requires it, generate the approval request.

Classes and operator registration

Check the class marking on the drone and the manufacturer manual. The values in the table are those from the Romanian MoI guide.
