Drone classes A1, A2 and A3
A1, A2 and A3 subcategories define how you can fly in the open category. They do not replace UAS map zone verification.
What are A1, A2 and A3?
Open-category subcategories under EU UAS rules, each with distance, altitude and operation rules.
Your A1/A3 or A2 certificate says how you may operate; the UAS map says if the location is permitted.
Both checks are required in practice.
Main differences
A1 — typically over residential areas with strict rules on flying over crowds.
A2 — controlled approach to uninvolved people with A2 certificate and minimum distances.
A3 — isolated areas away from gatherings with more permissive distance rules.
Choosing the right subcategory
Assess where you want to fly: urban, suburban or isolated.
Check drone class (C0–C4) and operator registration requirements.
Regardless of subcategory, check UAS map and NOTAMs before take-off.
Link to zone verification
A1/A2/A3 do not override restricted zones, CTR or NOTAMs.
Drone Log helps verify airspace regardless of your operational subcategory.
After checking, generate requests and log flights in the same workflow.

Why use Drone Log?
One place to check airspace and prepare the flight — without rebuilding data manually before every mission.
- All essential information in one place: UAS map, NOTAM, request documentation and logbook.
- Fast check on the exact flight point, not just the city name.
- UAS zones and NOTAMs correlated for the planned date and time.
- Generate the documentation needed to request approval when the zone requires it.
- Flight log with export, linked to the checks you made.
- Time saved before every flight — less hunting across separate sources.
