Drone flight approval: when and how
Restricted zones usually need prior approval. Prepare clear data and send through the official channel.
Key information
- First check the exact point on the UAS map.
- Prepare coordinates, date, time, duration and purpose.
- Annex 1 for CTR — contact the control tower.
- HG 859 for structured requests in Drone Log.
- Wait for written confirmation before take-off.
What this means for you
Without approval in a restricted zone, you risk a fine or an illegal operation. Send it early — not on flight day if you can avoid it.
How to get flight approval
- Confirm on the map that the zone needs approval / Annex 1 / coordination.
- Collect who, what drone, where, when, how long, why.
- Complete the request (Drone Log draft) and send on the correct channel.
- Track the reply and note conditions (altitude, hours, route).
- On flight day re-check NOTAM and follow approval conditions strictly.
