Guide for UAS pilots in Romania

Flying in open category A1/A3

Most recreational pilots in Romania operate in the open category under A1, A2, or A3 subcategories per Regulation (EU) 2019/947. Online training and operator registration are common steps — they do not replace airspace and local restriction checks.

What A1/A3 means in practice

The open category covers lower-risk operations with clear rules on height, distance from people, prohibited areas, and ground documents. Subcategory depends on aircraft weight and flight type. Keep your certificate, operator ID, and registration proof when you fly.

Why the flight area matters as much as the certificate

Even with A1/A3 you may encounter restricted UAS zones, NOTAM activations, temporary danger areas, or extra requirements near sensitive sites. A map check before flight reduces the risk of taking off where it is not allowed.

How Drone Log helps

In the app you check your operating point on UAS and NOTAM layers, prepare messages and documents when the zone requires approval, and keep flight records. Map results are indicative — always confirm with NOTAM/PIB and competent authorities.

Drone Log helps you organise checks and paperwork. It does not replace applicable regulations — verify official sources (NOTAM, UAS zones, authorities) before every flight.
